TCC to offer GED courses in Miccosukee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 16, 2008) - Tallahassee Community College has partnered with the Miccosukee Youth Foundation, Inc. (MYEF) to offer GED courses in northeast Leon County.

"This program will certainly give individuals an opportunity to make a dream come true. Students drop out of high school for a number of reasons. This TCC - MYEF partnership will help bridge that gap," stated Mary Young, Executive Director of the Miccosukee Youth Foundation, Inc. "I am looking forward to the first graduating class."

MYEF, Inc. was founded in July of 2002 for the purpose of helping children, in grades K-12, excel in academics. Since its inception, the Foundation has serviced more than 300 children and families through its Academic Achievement Program, consisting of a year-long tutoring program, FCAT review and summer camp program.

"TCC is pleased to partner with the MYEF, Inc. to provide preparatory training for the GED and adult basic education opportunities. In working with Dr. Young, we will be able to bring these services to the community to make them more accessible to individuals in that region of the county," said TCC Director of Workforce and Continuing Education Operations, Carol Easley.

The classes will be held at the Miccosukee Community Center, 13887 Moccasin Gap Rd., Miccosukee, Fla., each Monday and Wednesday night from 6-9 p.m. Community members may register for these courses by attending one of the orientation sessions. The next orientation is scheduled for Wednesday, April 23. For more information contact Dr. Mary Young at (850) 893-5241 or info@myefoundation.com.
